The Zeus Cannon being fired over and over again and making the problem worse until the Zeus Cannon blew itself up is a perfect metaphor for a lot of US policies. joker-amerikkklap

It had some problems but it swung for the fences and you gotta respect that.

Unfortunately, I believe the huge loss caused Hironobu Sakaguchi to resign, and FF was never the same after that.

never seen or even heard of this movie, but I have an affinity for CGI that’s not quite there yet so I’ll probably check it out

    also, lmao:

[Aki] appeared dressed in the bikini on the cover of Maxim, and was ranked by the magazine and its readers as one of the sexiest women of 2001, placing at No. 87 out of 100 and becoming the first fictional woman to ever make the list

It was never bad, it just cost too much to make and was a massive finacial disaster for the company. They put a ton of money into promoting it too. It would have had to be the greatest movie ever made to live up to the hype.

I think they had teally unrealistic expectations for its success. Like we remember the Aki magazine covers and the swimsuit spreads, but what was actually interesting is that the company was promoting Aki not as a character, but as an actress. They wanted to put her in other movies and have her do promotions etc. Which makes sense that they wanted to lay the ground work to reuse assets for sequels or ither gilms that could possibly make a profit

this film was my first “video game movies have fuck all to do with the games” experience. I remember my friend and i watched it when we were in elementary school and were like "tf did this have to do with final fantasy? lol

My reaction too. I was like 12 and had Cloud on my brain and that’s what I wanted to see in a Final Fantasy movie.

They could have played it safe and did a movie adaptation of 1 too, the warriors of light and restoring the crystals. They took a major risk on this film and sadly it bombed.

I think I had player VIII at the time, but yeah. I was expecting a sword wielding protagonist, a love interest, lovable goofy friend, a bunch of cool summons. It was like a pretty neat scifi movie, but they definitely shouldn’t have used the FF branding

tf did this have to do with final fantasy?

That’s basically every installment in the Final Fantasy series, though. By making no goddamned sense in the context of the broader series, it actually fits in. FF is goofy like that.

I kind of went through this while playing FF3US after playing FF2US. “Oh hey, it’s a guy named Cid! Wait, why doesn’t he have a bushy beard and a big-ass hammer? And why is he wearing a Devo suit?” Unrelated, but SNES Mode 7 scaler chocobo riding was hilarious.
