Knowing it’s there doesn’t mean much if you can’t access it. They aren’t going to have a public terminal in the street linked to it. They can also just wipe it from their own office and it reduces chances of leaks/whistleblowing.

Being hard wired to it and having it air gapped and only accessible from the white house itself is a huge advantage.
