Just putting this out there for those that might (even unintentionally) blurt out something like that, however well-meaning it is: Don’t.
This can be a very sore topic for a lot of people, so it’s best to avoid it, unless you’re very close and your friend/coworker/family member shows clear signs that they want to talk about it.
It can be worse if it’s a family member or a close person that you know. Especially if they are privileged:
“It’s a shame you don’t have kids, I can see you love them!”
Why yes, of course! But you see? Where the fuck should I grow them? Under a bridge? Living in poverty?
It’s rich, coming from you who got a house for free and don’t have to worry about a mortgage or a rent!
Seriously, never, EVER, bring that topic on someone, especially if you know them well. It’s not nice.
