Back in the day it used to be

      LGBTQIAA

For queer, intersex, asexual I believe, and ally.

Ally includes basically everything else and turned into the plus

Clearly any persistent ordering of the letters shows an implicit bias. The only reasonable thing is to randomize the letters on each use with (at minimum) a cryptographically secure PRNG.

As an ally, I figure I’m in the +. Or not in the name at all. Ally means an ally, not included in the group. But still welcome.

Straight guy. Wife and I love Pride events. We’ve never felt unwelcome. Just be cool to everyone.

There are a few in the community who are not inclusive to allies or they suspect ulterior motives. They don’t represent everyone and are best left alone.

Only queer people could take be angry about a lovely but mildly misguided sentiment like this.

This is not lovely or misguided. It’s extreme arrogance. “Hi, I know that you’ve had to make a community because specifically of the behavior of cishet people but now you’ve gotta let us in.” No. We really don’t. Moreover, putting the S at the beginning just goes to show how less important we are in comparison to them. The acronym has been around for a while and the L is always at the beginning because of how lesbians were among the few willing to treat gay men during the AIDS crisis.

Insisting that you be allowed into a group that was created due to the hatred from your own group is insanity. Demanding that you be given an honorific goes to show that nothing was learned and the community must remain without cishet peoples involvement. Especially when the insistence of adding an S to the LGBTQ+ acronym means that the acronym just stands for the entirety of the human race, therefore nullifying the existence of our community.

You say that it’s misguided but lovely but that ‘only queer’ people could be angry about it. If you’re not a queer person yourself then you have literally no right to a say in our response.

I mean… The + already does that. If your definition is only defined by the exclusion of cishet then just rename it to ¬S or something. If it’s based on something more (acceptance, inclusion, unity, allyship, etc…) then why bother getting upset at some random comment like this. You get to choose your personal community; you’re under no obligation to tolerate any specific cishet/queer person.

It doesn’t do that. The + is for all sexualities other than straight because straight people have literally the rest of the planet. We have nothing. We have created our own community in order to bond in that regard because we’ve been pushed out of everywhere else or have our lives threatened. An ally is an ally by not being part of the community but supporting it. So Straight people cannot call themselves an Ally at the same time as claiming they’re part of the community. And it’s not called the -S community because it isn’t about them.

I’m not getting upset at “some random comment” I’m pointing out that it’s literally indicative of the problem pointed out in the post.

Ahhh, I see now. Gender and sexuality are spectrums right up until you need to use them as a tool for tribalism.

it’s not called the -S community because it isn’t about them.

Lmfao what??? You literally just defined it by the exclusion of straight people? How can you wrap your definition entirely around cishet norms while claiming it’s not about them? That’s the black/white rhetoric that drives dumb wedges like bi-erasure and trans exclusion. It ceases being a community and turns into a sterile label.

            I’m gender fluid myself.

You people in this sub SERIOUSLY need to meditate and reflect

            Get a grip, actually.

I’m pretty sure you’re the one who needs to reflect here. It’s not supportive to say “Include the abuser”.

                You are actually stupid.

A misguided straight person clumsily attempts to express inclusion… You go snake.

                Take your meds.
