went to the DMV and got a new picture taken and updated my gender on my ID!!! in NYS the gender marker is self-reported with no legal schmuff so it was really easy :3
my old ID photo is terrible… so much facial hair… too little head hair… honestly if it weren’t for the dysphoria I might just get in trouble for having a viscerally different photo from what I actually look like 😭😭
can’t change my name, that’s a bit more of an involved legal process… but I’m working on it. in the meantime, this is way way better than nothing.
can’t wait for it to arrive :3

Edit: On another note, do you plan on changing name? In oregon it seems relatively easy to change gender marker as well, no legal crap required. But name change seems an entirely different beast and a bit scary and daunting. Curious your thoughts, cause i wannnnaaaa 😭
ya I do ever since I chose my new name it’s stuck and I really like it, I even get compliments on a pretty name :3 I so badly want it on everything all the time NOW!!!
Im soo in the same boat honestly, its also just too confusing for my tiny brain to process having two completely different names 😂

As far as changes to your name, if I recall correctly, it was pretty simple when my wife and I got married. She wanted to change her last name. I think she had to go to the social security office. Given, this was all a few years ago.

Different state here but my kid discovered it’s easier to change your last name when you get married but changing your first name is a whole different thing. Funny how entrenched paternalism makes one the accepted norm while rejecting the other as woke

Fortunately it’s easier in the state where they’ve moved. Still more/different paperwork though.

Hell yeah! I can change my gender marker once with no fee, and then there’s a charge, which I don’t expect to ever need to pay. I’m technically supposed to destroy my old licenses, but I’ve got all of them from the last 10 years, and I don’t look like I aged at all through the pictures. My beard changed length, and my buzz cut was slightly longer in some, but that’s about it. Now, I suddenly have jaw length hair (1 year or growth), no facial hair, and the photo is so overexposed my eyeliner is the only part of my eye you can see besides my irises/pupils, and it makes me look crosseyed as fuck. 🤦♀️ Having that F instead of M is huge tho! I had a couple people have to take a second to confirm I’m the person in the photo before I got a new picture, which was always weirdly affirming because it was confirmation that I’d made some some significant progress.
Congratulations 😊 I got mine done earlier this year and was very hyped about it haha. Its a bit more of an involved process where I’m from, it took me over a decade to get it done lol
