The best icons are behind a Reddit Premium paywall.

To add insult to injury.

Wait, do you actually have to pay for the original icon now? In what world do you make your actual logo a paid option? I hope this is only for the r/place event but with the recent changes I wouldn’t be surprised if they made everyone pay to not have the shitty pixel icon.

How about that, two things I wouldn’t use if you paid me. :D

Spez is copying Elon so I’m sure they’ll paywall DMs because those can’t be monetized by ads and have a high support load.

Apple don’t let you change app icons outside of the app? I’m not sure what’s stupider, apple or Reddit. On Android I can set my icon to whatever I like in my launcher.

I have not had a iPhone in a long time, so I am unsure of exactly how it works. But it has been a feature since iOS 14 to be able to change app icons on the home screen.

Then you are probably talking about shortcuts. The way it works is you make a small program with your icon, which just tells iOS to open the program you want. The problems with that are that it doesn’t display the notification count, it only applies it on your Home Screen, it will show up separately when you search for your app (the original app and the app with your icon) and it will show an annoying pop up every time you open the app

I think that this is just for r/place (and even then it’s still scummy), but if the Reddit executives have shown us anything, it’s that they don’t act according to rational thought. I could easily see them keeping this pixel icon as the default, no matter how stupid that might be. Or they might keep coming up with things to make new icons for so you always have to pay if you just want the default original.

You really never know with Reddit.
