Nestlé is assessing its options after Russia placed the Swiss food giant’s local assets under temporary external administration.

    Apparently this is Russian retaliation for the Swiss government imposing sanctions on Russia.

    For most of us supporting Ukraine, I think we’re quite happy with this. Western companies that stayed in Russia after the invasion showed their greed was greater than their ethics. This seizure is a satisfying karmic result. Further, any remaining Western companies that thought they could stay and operate with “business as usual” are likely forming rapid exit plans from this latest move by Russia.

    The real winner here is Ukraine.

    They had several years to pull operations out of Russia and didn’t. So their loss. When the invasion started and kept going they should’ve closed up shop like several businesses did.

      This is a wild thought but putin might be less of a bastard than nestle. Like I genuinely feel that even invading a soverign country, starting a years long war, purposely targeting power infrastructure during the winter, and all that shit is still somehow less evil than what nestle does.

      Not even close. When one shitty organization does something shitty to another organization, it doesn’t make the first organization good. We can still celebrate the second organization experiencing the inevitable consequences of continuing to capitulate to the first organization.

      Another example: In 1939, during WWII Stalin and Hitler agreed to carve up Eastern Europe between the two countries and to not attack each other. Nazi Germany and Russia invaded Poland devastating the country and killing millions of innocent civilian Poles. Two years later in 1941, Hitler violated the pact and invaded Russia anyway killing millions of Russians. Its hard to feel sorry for 1941 Russia after what 1939 Russia did to Poland. In none of the scenarios is Hitler a good guy.

        Of note: the Soviets were happy to let the Nazis have their half of Europe as long as the Nazis let them have their autocracy in their half.

        Russia truly was only on the side of the “good guys” because their bad guy ally double crossed them.

          Man, lemmy sure does seem to love its historical revisionism.

          The opposite is true: The USSR tried forming alliances against the Nazis while all western powers signed agreements with the Nazis, with the USSR finally joining in to buy more time to prepare for the coming war.
