I have been an active user of different Lemmy.ml communities for a long time but for personal reasons I want to migrate from Dbzer0 to Yiffit, unfortunately to my surprise Lemmy.ml stopped federating with Yiffit a few months ago and honestly it saddens me because there are communities like c/linux, c/privacy, c/firefox, c/fdroid that are extremely useful and I love to participate in them.
Is there any chance that Yiffit will be federated again? And why was it defederated from Lemmy.ml?
The admin of Yiffit is an incredibly nice person and I’m sure he will want to come to collaborate to be able to federate again with Lemmy.ml. As a user I find it a little unfair not to be able to participate in these communities from this instance but I understand and respect that each instance has its own policies and decisions.
The admins of Lemmy.ml are staunchly against any pornographic material being federated to their instance. This stance is unlikely to ever change and you should not expect it to.
Personally I would just recommend keeping two accounts if this is your problem - one general purpose and another for being able to view NSFW.
Thanks for the information, and I will take it into account.
For what it’s worth, I saw your posts on Yiffit when you found all this out after the fact. It’s a little inconvenient on desktop, but on mobile it’s actually very intuitive to have separate accounts to specifically browse an instance by local. You can usually even have the same display name if that’s important to you as well.
In the future though you always do need to keep instance politics, culture, and rules in mind when choosing a daily driver account because it is important.
Federation is just enhanced centralization.
Out of curiosity, why yiffit in particular? Lot of nice people there for sure, but that can be said of most instances.
If you’re going to only have a single account to keep track of, there are plenty of options that aren’t as likely to be defederated, and you still have access to the yiffit content and users as well as ml content and users.
Mind you, there’s more benefit to having multiple accounts than drawbacks, particularly for the nsfw stuff. I tend to block the majority of the communities that fall into the porn side of that on my main accounts just because I like my feed to be useful to me, and I have very limited use for porn/fetish material on a regular basis, but I don’t bother on other accounts because it doesn’t bother me to just scroll past on those occasional use accounts.
I like Yiffit in particular because besides the fact that I’m not just there for the NSFW content, just as there are those who like to constantly check /All, I like to check /Local to see all the posts in the instance without having to manually subscribe to each existing community on Yiffit because I use /Subscribed exclusively to see the communities that I like, so /Local is like a kind of filter for me because I’m not an excessive consumer of NSFW either, there are simply certain artists who create great art and Yiffit is a great place to find artists you didn’t know, or see art in general whether SFW or NSFW, not just “watch porn”.
I used to use up to 4 accounts at the same time with different feeds so as not to put all my eggs in the same basket but I got to a point where I honestly got sick of it, I really just want when I have free time to scroll through my feed and that’s it.
Its really also a good option as you said to maintain this account and subscribe to the Yiffit communities that I like because I have the best of both worlds, or as another user had already recommended to me, I could also perfectly have another exclusive account for Yiffit, but that’s what I’ve been doing for months and I honestly feel tired of having different feeds, but they are completely valid options that I should consider again.
Makes sense, I can get how splitting feeds could get old.
There used to be an app that combined feeds, liftoff. It was awesome in that regard, you could log in to multiple accounts, and have access to all of it in one, or have it separated. It would be wicked if someone were to implement that in other apps for sure, though it wouldn’t be useful for folks using a browser.
Sounds like your issue is people made serious communities on an instance that’s mostly fetish porn…
Other instances can’t federate with the sfw stuff and still block the NSFW stuff. Especially since there’s a lot of spillover and communities that aren’t technically porn are still NSFW.
Why be mad at the other instances whose users don’t want to deal with an insane amount of fetish porn and shitty porn adjacent meme subs when they browse Lemmy by /all?
If you want those serious discussions and don’t mind and the furry stuff, make an account there.
At what point did I say that I was upset with the decisions made by other instances? I openly said that I respect and agree with the decisions made by the administrators of the instances.
Personally I don’t use /all much, I just see the posts of the communities to which I am subscribed and that’s all, and I think that’s a good point that I hadn’t taken into account and thanks for pointing it out, but that’s why it especially affects me not to have access to those communities in lemmy.ml, because they have a huge flow of posts that I lose by not being able to access those communities.
So what the point?
You just want your fetish pron to be more easily accessible for you even though most people don’t want to be exposed to it?
Cool, I thought you wanted an explanation, but you just wanted to complain.
Have fun with that
Someone piss in your Cheerios this morning?
OP is very respectful and understanding of the answers they’ve received and you’re being an asshole presumably because you have an issue with furries.
I hate politics as well as many people, and just like them, I am constantly exposed to them on Lemmy and especially via /all, I can just block those communities, can’t I? Or I can simply not even look for them in the first place because I don’t like them and not hate the people who do enjoy them.
Speaking of blocking…
Have fun pretending to be an animal tho, different strokes for different folks and all.
