I was recently banned from the subreddit, r/Robinhood for making a comment about Robinhood’s shady practices. I quoted their own rule, “Don’t be you”, calling them hypocrites, and received a 7 day ban from Reddit the following day.

How can we draw attention to Reddit supporting a subreddit whose very rules promote and protect intolerance and harassment?

I encourage you to message Reddit directly and report this community.

A lot of Lemmy users are here because we left reddit. However, it’s kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t really talk about it. People would rather focus on making Lemmy good by talking about things other than Reddit. I am sorry you had a bad experience at Reddit. I did too. But say “Goosfraba” and move on with enjoying a Reddit-less life. Welcome to Lemmy!

Does that include celebrating r/Wallstreetbets shorting the fuck out of Reddit’s IPO?

Thanks for the welcome! People need to critically understand the implications here instead of blindly excusing it because of status quo.

Not discussing Reddit makes sense except when it comes to protecting others. I feel this is an important issue for the community to be aware of, because it is similar to the r/Conservative subreddit that eventually got shut down due to cultivating toxic rhetoric.

This “Don’t be you” rule allows the community to be a breeding ground for intolerance and hate towards vulnerable communities, and Reddit is not only allowing it, but supporting it through bans.

Oh, we understand plenty. The insanity of mods regarding the lack of transparency or consistency of upholding rules is why we branched out. The bots and API bullshit are we don’t go back.

Avoiding being a circlejerk of complaining about Reddit is why we mostly avoid the topic.

I guess I’m confused because there’s a lot of circlejerking about conservatives and their ideaologoes in this community, and this “Don’t be you” rule falls in line with the exact same anti-LGBTQ2A+ rhetoric that conservatives follow.

Bringing attention to a community that promotes and protects intolerance seems like something this community would be interested in, but I can understand if you just want to move on like a bad breakup.

            Here at lemmy.world?

As far as I know, the fediverse, in general, is mostly center/slightly left, not counting things like the socialist, commie, or tankie instances.

Also, some of the big ones are fairly USA centered and it’s a general election year. So, everyone is fighting about it. But the fact that it’s a fight means there is more than one opinion.

If you’re complaining about Reddit, idk what to tell you. I haven’t been there in ages.

I was referring to this Leftist sub specifically being interested in trying to shut down an intolerant, toxic, conservative leaning community. Maybe this is better suited for a social justice community, but I haven’t found one. Do you know any?

I must have missed that. Most just talk about ignoring or defederating.

I haven’t looked for any social justice centered instances. I’m mostly here to find memes and I won’t go to toxic sites like iFunny or Reddit to get them anymore.

Yeah I’m excited to finally find a decent alternative. I just worry about that community being a breeding grounds for intolerance and red pill incels.

I really don’t give a fuck about what reddit did or didn’t do. Keep the reddit shit on reddit.

That’s an interesting reaction. Are we to keep harmful things that conservatives are doing on conservative forums?

Kind of, yeah. If the forum in question is toxic (Twitter, Truth Social), then it’s best to simply tell people to stay away from it.

The problem isn’t with interacting with conservatives - that’s actually very much encouraged. The issue is the silencing and pruning they will do to anyone who opposes their opinions.

It’s just not worth the effort… The people who create echo chambers aren’t going to listen to the few that get through the gate. Reddit is 100% an echo chamber at this point. It’s not even just left or right… It’s just kind of a place people like to echo and yell now.

The people of substance are largely gone. They are here now.

That particular community exists to promote a product, and the moderators apparently are interested in silencing dissent. The platform is bought & paid for, and you broke the rules. The reaction you experienced is not limited to a single website or political group, if that makes you feel any better.

Yeah, unfortunately I’ve seen many leftist people say ‘paradox of tolerance’ and use that as an excuse to be intolerant.

Sounds like you are either giving half of the story, or you don’t know what the paradox is, because the only excuse for being intolerant under the paradox of tolerance is to be intolerant to bigoted fascist racist oppressive intolerant assholes.
