News@lemmy.world•One in five young Americans think the Holocaust is a myth
1·2 years agoI don’t know if he believed this way when he was in Germany, but he only studied there and came back to the USA after for the rest of his life. But I agree he’s a special kind of stupid.

News@lemmy.world•One in five young Americans think the Holocaust is a myth
161·2 years agoMy Dad is a Hitler supporter and Holocaust denier and he has a bachelor’s degree and even studied in Germany. Wild how he can believe such things, so it’s not just the ones who can’t read who believe this crap. 🫠
Ain’t no loaf of bread costing $42,000.

News@lemmy.world•Economists predict US inflation will keep cooling and the economy can avoid a recession
21·2 years agoMy initial thoughts exactly.
Just do a walk in? You don’t need an appointment it just saves time if you can plan ahead
Calling /u/fuckswithducks are you here on Lemmy?

21·2 years agoSure. If you want to spend more time making rice that has a high chance of burning or being overcooked or undercooked, and that you’ll have to put leftovers in the fridge right away, and that you have to remember to turn off when it’s finished etc. Then yeah, a pot and lid works fine. To me, the time savings and the improved quality of the rice together make the premium rice cookers more than worth the investment. Every grain is perfect, not undercooked and crunchy or overcooked and soggy. No burned rice. Just set it and forget it and have perfectly cooked fluffy warm rice ready to eat all day long.
When rice actually tastes incredible every time, you tend to eat it more often. I know I make way more rice now than I did before I got mine.

11·2 years agoActually, while regular bread makers do work, the zojirushi models, when tested head to head with cheaper models, come out ahead every time.

21·2 years agoRice in the instant pot is fine, but it’s a bit more hands on. The rice cooker makes it perfect automatically every time after you put the ingredient in and just press a button. You can also keep the rice warm the entire day so you can make some for breakfast and just use it throughout the day, hot and ready to eat! The convenience of not needing to babysit the rice, put leftovers away right after making it, no chance of burning the rice, every individual grain cooked perfectly etc. It’s worth it. When you have equipment that makes something, normally mediocre, exceptional every time you end up eating it way more often.
Edit: I realize the instant pot has a keep warm function too, but I often make something in my instant pot to go with the rice so it’s better to have a rice cooker for that reason as well.

1·2 years agoCurious that you’re acting like I’m being dishonest in some way. There’s no link to buy anything in my post, and I’m up front that I do sales for a living. But despite that, my enthusiastically sharing things I actually use and love is somehow looked at distastefully?
I mean sure, I’m trying to get people to buy the products I bought because I like them and want other people to experience them too. So in that way I’m definitely selling. But that’s just normal isn’t it? I ain’t making any money for this post, it’s just authentic enthusiasm.
Maybe I sound a bit more salesman like than I wanted to, but it’s hard to not talk the way I do all day everyday at work selling one of the very things I love and use at home and talk about in the post! Forgive me I guess. ✌️

1·2 years agoCongrats! I’d still recommend these things for time savings alone. Time is money after all. But if you have plenty of time and don’t want any more, then for sure don’t worry about them. No need to call it shit though. ✌️

1·2 years agoInteresting you prefer calling people insane when you don’t agree with them when they’re sharing something they love and find a good investment overall.
Making bread can be easy without a bread maker for sure, but there’s a heck of a lot more time investment involved and attention that needs to be given when doing it without an automatic bread maker. With my machine I can spend 5 min loading the pan with the ingredients, turn the machine on and go about the rest of my day. 3 hours later I get the smell of baking bread and another 40 min later I have a fresh loaf.
The machine does make a difference in the finished product too. Side by side comparisons of cheap and expensive rice cookers show that people notice the difference. The rice in a smart zojirushi is just better. Objectively. America’s Test Kitchen did a bread maker showdown and my model came out on top (that’s why I bought it) as making the best bread overall.
Invest in quality things and you’d be surprised at how much better they are vs the competition.
And FWIW, the woman I’m dating loves the shit out of me and my love for appliances 🤪.

1·2 years agoThe main thing I look at is time.
I live alone, I work full time, AND take 2 - 4 classes working on my degree. I don’t have as much time to spend on cooking as I’d like and having these set-and-forget appliances that are all the best in their category AFAIK (or at least my favorite version of their category like the air fryer), really helps me to make more fresh delicious food than I otherwise would.
I have 2 KitchenAids actually, a Model from the 80s that was built before whirlpool bought them, and I have the commercial 8 qt version. I still bought the breadmaker and I make bread all the time. Making bread with the KitchenAid and oven is pretty easy but it’s way more hands-on and you need to pay a lot more attention. And with the bread maker I have the bread IS gourmet quality. It’s delicious. The rice too. The appliances do make objectively better versions of food than their cheaper counterparts do. Which is clear to anyone doing a side by side with cheap versions (there’s plenty of YouTube comparisons, including America’s test kitchen with bread makers). Cleaning is easy as well.
I feel like you didn’t really read my post. I detail the things the air fryer is useful for beyond junk food. I detail the reasons why the instant is great beyond a stove top/crock pot substitute. I agree with you that learning basic techniques is more important, but I use all these tools regularly and everyone I share a meal with is always really really impressed by the quality of the food I make. They save me time most importantly and time is money so I’ve definitely recouped the cost of these machines by now in time savings alone.
Thanks for the comment/engagement! Even if you disagree somewhat. 👍

10: Dehydrating anything (air fryer).
Air fryers are dehydrators too! Dehydrate fruit, or make fruit leather. Or dehydrate mini marshmallows to mix with Cheerios for homemade lucky charms!
Make a balsamic reduction.
No doubt you can even easily make your own beef jerky even. I definitely need to try that. So many possibilities.

So there you have it. 10 major things that you can do with these 5 appliances!
Why not put Tuvix in the pattern buffer, copy his pattern to storage, separate one copy of the pattern into Tuvok and Neelix, then transfer the Tuvix pattern back before rematerializing him thus saving all 3?
Oh my sweet summer child.
