    It could be a very long focal length lens, they can make far away objects appear quite large and closer to the foreground.

      looking at the detail of the water more closely, it seems like the water is a close up shot of a smaller wave that was photoshopped behind a person standing on a beach, so the scale makes it look huge. ive never seen a tidal wave though! maybe they have those same curves in big scale

        Locally it looks reasonable but kind of weird on the left side

          nah not AI generated, I’ve been seeing this picture in memes for years, long before the AI craze. & note how in the bottom right the water seems to have a clean cut where it meets the sand, looks like a photoshop job to me
