RIP to him, obviously we all have our criticisms but reading How the World Works in my mid 20s was literally my first real encounter with leftist ideas, the first crack in my worldview that the US was a moral leader marching everyone to a bright future.

edit: actually he’s still alive, EAT SHIT YOU TURBOLIB TRAITOR

I think it’s quite nice that Noam gets a chance to hear the nice things people will say about him after his death with all these early obituaries posted.

I think some people might wish that folks had said nice things to them before they died.

      Don’t.

Don’t make me imagine what it would have been like if I had the chance to celebrate the announcement of Kissinger’s death multiple times in one day. It hurts to think about what could have been if only things had turned out a little differently.

A Chomsky croaks a thousand times before his death, but the liberal croaks but once.

It seems to me most strange that men should prematurely publish obituaries, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come.

    —Shakespeare

I’m going to have a drink in honour of Chomsky tonight. Not because he’s dead or anything but because he always sounds perpetually thirsty and my throat is getting dry just thinking about the guy.

      Translation:

      Noam Chomsky is alive!

At 3:41pm EDT today the 18th of June 2024, his spouse, Valeria, confirmed to me that Noam Chomsky is recovering his health. The rumors about his death are false. #NoamChomsky

Lmao this is true but he recently had a stroke and everyone panicked because he (finally) stopped responding to every email he received while convalescing.

    That link working for anyone?

Varoufakis penned an obituary in The New Statesman but that page isn’t accessible:

    https://www.newstatesman.com/ideas/2024/06/the-noam-chomsky-i-knew

Jacobin dropped one but I’m having trouble getting that to load as well.

Edit: Looks like Jacobin dropped an obituary, possibly too soon and they may have retracted it along with the other publications. It’s kinda funny how everyone has their obituaries drafted and ready to publish at a moment’s notice when a major figure is getting closer to kicking the bucket, in a dark sort of way.

Yeah, looks like Jacobin might have jumped the gun on this one:

Their website is currently down but this tweet has been deleted since they posted it and the associated obituary.
