I’ve been using my running headphones with my newest phone for a while now. They are okay, but hurt my ears after a few hours. The most comfortable headphones I have are old Shure SRH440… which only have a wired connection.
I found a USB to 3.5mm audio adapter on AliExpress (apparently from BLUEKAKA):

I also needed a 3.5mm to 2.5mm audio cable, since the one from the headphones are a huge coiled affair designed to prevent kinks in the cable… great for recording in a studio but not very handy when walking the dog.
After hooking everything up it seems to work well. Yay!
Anyway, I was just carrying everything around loose until I realized that it was small enough to just strap onto the headphones. I used a hairband that my wife left lying around to attach the adapter.
It looks really janky, so I’ll probably 3D print a nicer looking setup eventually.
My cat recently did something similar with a pair of mine…
All that cracking pleather looks uncomfortable AF.
Welcome to the club!

Love it!
Thanks for reminding me that I need to replace the pads on my Sennheisers. They’re finally back in stock.
You can probably buy a replacement cushion for it too.
Yes, good point!
That looks Macgyvered as fuck, and i love it. I’ve done something similar before, but just temporarily and not attached to the headphones. I plugged my AKG K712 cans into my portable headphone amp, and that to a Bluetooth audio receiver. Then, had to have a power bank to run it all. It all fit into a Nintendo DS carrying case, but definitely not as convenient as having it attached to the cans.
Is the sound quality any good? I bought one of those cheap BT audio jack’s one time for a similar project and the audio was tinny and laggy and made the whole idea a complete bust.
Take a look at Fiio’s wireless DACs. I use a BTR11 (costs like 25 EUR) and the quality is as good as I can reasonably expect at that price. Its output is a 3.5mm jack and it easily drives my 80-ohm Beyer.
Yeah I had the exact same experience. On the other hand, my $16 wireless earbuds have excellent audio quality. So it seems there are good cheap DACs out there, but also a lot of trash.
Yeah, I had decent, cheap, wireless earbuds, which made me think you could get something similar that could just act as a jack for wired headphones. Maybe they exist, but the one I tried was not it.
I think that it’s fine. My hearing sucks ass and I mostly listen to podcasts, so I wouldn’t be a good person to ask.
I wouldnt want any audio going over Bluetooth. The one I bought was 2.4GHz for the low latency so I can game using jt. There is a sound floor, but that can be minimized by broadcasting with volume as close to clipping as possible, without clipping of course. Its not audiophile grade, but it still sounds really good. I can’t tell the difference in 95% of cases.
https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-M-Vave-Wp12.html I picked up a set of these, to be specific. Not quite the same use case as OP.
🤨
edit:oh, there is sound
The wireless transmitter I bought came with two receivers. I hot swap the receiver when it runs out of battery, and I have Velcro on the headset and each receiver so I just slap them on. Works great!
Ooo velcro seems like a great idea!
I find this quite interesting. Not dull. Harrumph!!
