I don’t think it is really that people in the US are ‘hesitant’. They are being actively discouraged by the fascists in power, and there is a ton of oil money spreading propaganda and disrupting proper infrastructure development. Also the most affordable EVs arent being sold in thr US because of corruption, xenophobia, protectionism, etc. If the average person was in a position where they could purchase an affordable EV and have the infrastructure most other developed countries have they would leap at the chance.
It doesn’t help that the dealer system in the US is propped up by state laws. Dealers hate EVs because they mean less service revenue. Salesdroids will actively steer you away from an EV when you are car shopping.
(GM should have kept its Saturn brand around and used it to exclusively sell EVs to solve this.)
There’s also a problem in that Japanese car manufacturers are still EV averse. And companies like VW refuse to sell their compact EV models in North America.
Yeah, the whole dealer system needs to just be eliminated. It doesn’t do anything beneficial. Just adds cost and complexity with the only purpose bring to enrich societal parasites.
Right, we don’t have good options for anyone but rich people. The used car market was not too terrible last time I looked at least.
We need some basic EVs like a Toyota Camry or Ford Ranger style without all the extra bullshit. We don’t need screens and luxury data mining BS everywhere. Just a good car that works well, running on electric motors.
There are 8 EVs for sale right now between $29K and $38K.
I got mine for under $20, and lower end models go for $12 off-lease

Ioniq5, Ioniq6, Solterra, Mustang MachE all under $40k.
Kind of ironic that you’re calling people ignorant when you think tens of thousands of dollars is affordable for most folks. A lot of people are struggling even to afford low end used internal combustion engines.
While, $30,000-40,000 might be considered “affordable” by some luckier people, for many, that is not even remotely close to being a financially viable choice The reality for many is that they are completely priced out of being able to buy any new car, never mind an EV.
How about under $8,000? Because that’s all I can afford.
I’m trying to not need a car after mine dies, it barely gets used right now. Hoping we can keep that pattern through our next move

Gas prices in the US haven’t reached those in more civilized parts of the world yet. When gas is $12/gallon, the US will also want to electric vehicles (if not before).
