The only thing this is going to accomplish is putting the January 6 insurrection terrorist attack back in the news, and it’s gonna further implicate the Republicans. The FBI already has these tapes, and now people are going to be demanding that the FBI release its version of the footage which is the unedited version. This is why you don’t put a no-name back-bencher like Mike Johnson as speaker of the house

It’s not going to do a lot to protect suspects anyway. There’s so much other media created by the mob themselves that you should be able to easily cross reference.

They’re not actually obstructing justice, since the feds have had this footage since day 1. They’re blurring the photos so the public can’t ID them. The idea is to prevent citizens from taking matters into their own hands.

Which is clearly somehow different from what the insurrectionists did.

Speaker Johnson explicitly said the blurring is so the DoJ isn’t “weaponized” against these people. It is precisely to prevent further prosecutions by making it harder to identify people in newly released footage, they aren’t even trying to pretend otherwise.

Yeah, the difference is that the “taking matters into their own hands” has been traitors being reported to the FBI, not an angry mob calling for blood.

        But you knew that already

If they’re all just peaceful tourists, why do they need their faces blurred?

Also, lol at the idea that DoJ can’t get access to those tapes, some of which came from DoJ in the first place. Performative bullshit, as always.

Honestly, this is probably just theatre. The federal cops have almost certainly seen this footage.

Also, we already saw most of the worst crimes on national TV.

The DOJ had the footage since day 1. The GOP is blurring to protect these traitors from the public. Meanwhile, pretty crime suspects still get their faces plastered on local news.

      Rules for thee…

Although, to be fair, a lot of these assholes were all over national TV. Sure, some folks probably flew under the radar, but the worst offenders are pretty well documented.

IMHO, this is just the GOP trying to fire up its base by telling the base that they’re persecuted victims. It’s all for show, and getting angry about it only feeds into the narrative.

The public has been identifying these traitors and then giving their names to the DOJ. The public uses the J6 footage to ID the traitors. That’s why blurring the faces is harmful to prosecuting these traitors. The DOJ needs the public’s help to identify them.

Just a question, but as most of this footage was aired live Jan 6, would someone not already have the un-blured footage? Someone should start sharing that footage anyway. Why even play these games?

Of course the FBI has it. But, there is a whole lot more than what was on TV. Lots of cameras on the Hill.

But so much was on television from those cameras, the station got that footage somehow. The people that have access to the footage (in part or whole) should put it forward. I don’t think this is a good idea to try to protect the identity of insurrectionists from the country unless they are charging all involved. Now you will once again make it a red vs blue issues where everything is grey and angry.

No one of consequence, and this move seems to show that there are still people to prosecute. This has been one of the lightest punished insurrection attempts in the world.

Soo the FBI has identified, arrested and jailed most of the people perpetrating violence that day. The DOJ has indicated the ring leaders. However, you think there are peo0le of consequence left? OK, I’m done here.

That’s how fucked our judicial system is, be wealthy and connected and unless you commit the ultimate sin of messing with other rich peoples money you’re off with a stern warning. Be a typical Joe and do 1/100000th of what Trump has done and you’re arrested and thrown in prison faster than you can say “grab em by the pussy.”

The one thing in which I take solace when thinking about politics is how terrible a life they endure. Imagine being scared and angry all the time. At least their hateful views poison their own existence in a way that gives some small amount of justice.
