You know, I only just sorta realized something. Star Trek has its whole obsession with early Earth stuff. The music, the plays, the movies. For some reason it wasn’t until this post that I realized the real-world reason for this was just money. They could use public works for free but they also worked because they were a part of our history as a whole.
Pike is busy watching '50s sci-fi, he’s got no time for cartoons. Tom Paris would probably be more than happy to talk about Steamboat Willie, but it’s just going to devolve into a rant about how Mickey is an Ub Iwerks character in all the ways that actually matter and that Disney was a hack fraud, and it will pivot to classic cars before you even know what happened.
