the virgin IPA v. the CHAD sour
Imperialist Pale Ale
sour imperial
Uggghhhh
what does imperial mean in reference to beer?
iirc, IPAs were made with high alcohol content like that so they could survive the trip from England to India, especially pre-Suez.

this is based on a vague recollection of a wikipedia article probably, so take that with a grain of salt. and yeah, i think IPAs typically have a higher average alcohol content than “normal” beers. usually in the 6-8% range or so.
hops act as a preservative and alcohol doesn’t spoil, so if you load a high alcoholic beer up with hops it’ll keep for quite a while
Something along the lines of “high quality” or “luxury” - “imperial” beers were ones brewed in the UK for export to the imperial russian court.
Bullshit IPA tastes great. It certainly is an acquired taste I suppose like coffee.
“acquired taste” mainly means “tastes bad”
you fool, you played yourself.
there’s pleasure in bitterness. open yourself to a wider variety of experiences.
the world is bitter enough i don’t need to put more of it in my mouth
The only taste that’s not “acquired” is mothers milk. Everything else is something you learn to appreciate.
if you’ve never liked something the first time you might have some severe and uncommon sensory issues.
Look I saw a YouTube short about “sweet” being the only taste we like from birth because babies have to drink milk and everything else is an acquired taste, which is why liquorice tastes bad to people who don’t eat liquorice and who am I to question a random man on youtube?
My problem is I tasted raw hops, and that’s all most IPA taste like with no other subtitles. I like some hoppiness, but oof.
It’s like, I like basil but you put a quarter cup of dry basil in my tomato soup. I can’t.
Coffee has room for other notes. IPA is like getting smashed in the face with a hop stick.
I like tricking people into eating raw hops.
I’ve never recovered. Lmao
Hahaha.
Too each their own
I honestly wish I could enjoy it, itd be nice because there are so many options and i never seem to like them regardless
I remember the first time I tried an IPA. I was kind of hyped just because it seemed like they were popping up everywhere. And I was so disappointed. I don’t think I was able to finish it.
On the flip side I like Guiness and everyone I know hates it so there’s that
As a fan of stouts, I’m happy we got Guinness. Yeah it’s not the best, but it’s still a way better stout than Budweiser is a lager.
Friend gave me an IPA when I was in college, one of my first beers ever. Shit literally tasted like hand sanitizer.
American Palate detected.
Opinions like this are why my delicious pine resin has been muscled out by alcoholic grapefuit juice.
There are so few gateway IPAs these days. Its either Triple Extreme Hopocalypse Ale with mango and pineapple or some lame, unbalanced session IPA. We need fewer insane IPAs and maybe they won’t get so much hate.
I really liked the Beer Hug IPAs and Sierra Nevada IPAs, most other IPAs taste like shit
Less IPA, more IRA please.
tastes like ear wax and pine trees, but at least it gets ya drunk
Other things get you drunk while tasting much better
I will drink rotgut whiskey 10/10 times over IPAs

What is up with Poles and putting cows on alcohol packaging?
It’s not just “some” fucking cow. It’s the Żubr, European Bison, and Poland is well known for maintaining and boosting their population. You could say it’s one of our unofficial national symbols. And yes. Best piwo, I bet you drink Piast.
Typical American 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
>imagine being American and not knowing what bison look like
😔
they’re big and cute

The only IPA I’ve ever really enjoyed tastes nothing like an IPA.
The problem with IPAs is they take over your palate. I drank 'em for a while because it was what my partner liked and now a lot of other beers taste unpleasantly sweet. I still dig a good porter, though.
I stg there are more bad-tasting IPAs out there than most other kinds of beer combined. And that’s coming from someone who does like some IPAs a lot!
Reds are the best.
Unironically.
scotch ale gang
scotch ale gang
I prefer my beer to have been wild fermented in an open vat but capitalism hates it!
The trick is IPA’s are best with food, taking drinks between bites to pair the bitterness with the savory qualities of the meal
It’s a fool’s errand to try and drink them straight
