While the comparison is children and no children, making one side obvious and the other side highly variable, but, for example, many people care for other family members and extended networks who are not biological children. It’s proven time and time again giving flexibility, working from home, a good life/work balance , etc. to workers improves their productivity. A happy worker is a good worker.
What they care about are control and numbers. They want to measure, compare and see numbers go up short term.
And you can only do that by keeping your workers on a tight leash.
