The Pirate Bay is on the open web.
So I guess it’s perfectly okay to pirate Microsoft software.
And if torrents don’t count, I guarantee you that there are public websites with direct downloads of pirated Microsoft software that have yet to be taken down.
Microsoft never cared about piracy. They even legalised all Windows 7 installations which migrated to Windows 10 and they host a 3rd party activator for all of their products. They only do crackdowns on pirated software in corporate setting and on sellers of pirates copies. Sharing copies for free is fine with them. You can also download their software for free from microsoft.com and new activation rules mean that their software will work forever without activation.
I think they care about piracy when it comes to their XBox games.
Not really. They have a very solid DRM solution to please 3rd party game publishers, but they don’t use it properly for their own games, lol. Except for Forza games and some other game series, which are XBox flagships.
You seem to be confusing not going after small-time pirates with not caring about it. They don’t go after the small-time pirates because they would spend endless amounts of money doing it. It’s not worth it.
…and they host a 3rd party activator for all of their products.
What’s all this now?
https://github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
GitHub is owned by Microsoft. And they know about it 100%. And give zero fucks, because it’s free and no one earns money.
They host MAS/(Microsoft Activation Scripts) because they tell users to download and run it if an activation error occurs.
The torrents are on the web but the content itself is not on the web, only BitTorrent.
Does this mean Windows XP’s source code is public domain? Wine and ReactOS people will love this
Man, fuck Microsoft in particular. They’ve gone from fighting open-source tooth and nail, to now declaring that of course everyone else opened up their stuff and they’re allowed to take it.
In turn, if I’d find a copy of Windows, Office, or whatever Microsoft software on the net, I’d be free to use it in amy way I like? Because that is what he is basically arguing.
That’s how I fill my Jellyfin server.
When has Microsoft not thought that stealing was OK?
When you steal their products.
Now robot scrapers are “thieves” for looking at your jpeg? Foh lol
Training isn’t stealing. Just like Google scrapers which are the same thing aren’t stealing.
It was on the shelf out in the open officer. There wasn’t a lock on it and that means it is free.
