Look, if you live somewhere that the sun makes you regret existence (read: everywhere in 10 years), yard work is getting done in the morning, car work is getting done in the evening.

Our neighbors decided that it would be a very great idea to start split and saw 350 ft³ of wood at 6am on Saturday morning, until 11am.

Get out of town, into a rural area they said. It’s much quieter they said. That and the street that runs in front of our house…

Hahaha welcome to rural living for sure! Ive had a couple early camping mornings because I didn’t know how close the loggers would be. It’s nice to get started on chores earlier as you can, but I do try to be mindful of gas tools before 8.

One of my neighbors must be invested in a couple different ammunition companies and trying to inflate their stock the way they shoot. All day Sunday sometimes.

Trade offs for living in the woods.

Literally on my drive home today. Dude was angry that I was actually going 25 mph outside the school, where busses were loading children and sped around me doing like 50 at the first opportunity.

Then he literally stopped at the next red light, saw I was right behind him, and just ran the red light because his tiny, fragile ego could not handle the fact that he was a grown ass man acting like a petulant child. Which obviously means he needs to break the law more.

I assume he had shit himself because I cannot imagine any other reason for a grown ass man to behave like this.

My neighbor used a leaf blower to dry his car after washing it at 7am on a Saturday. I don’t know that I will ever be able to like that man after this.

There is no mention of lawns in the post. Is this maybe supposed to be a response in one of the comment threads?

Yeah I’m up at 3-4 am every day so I’m waiting for our local ordinance to say it’s okay before I’m being loud. We have quiet hours 10p -7a. There are definitely people who make noise during the quiet hours though. I’m m in the US but I couldn’t care less about my lawn though. Probably some of my neighbors wish I did.

My neighbors consistently party until about five in the morning with outdoor speakers on the weekends. I’m generally up for the day before they’re done with last night, and I get to enjoy free concerts from their sound system.

You’re God damned right I’ve zero qualms about firing up the lawn mower as soon as the sun breaks the eastern horizon.

Have you tried being a good neighbor and letting them know their loud parties are causing you harm?

Because otherwise you’re tacitly telling them it’s fine.

Just tried that last week and I will never directly contact people like that again.

All it got me was an angry neighbor who now turns their shit up louder than it was before as they drive by my house.

I guess I’ll just resort to fucking with their vehicle in the future.

You can’t reason with some people.

I went over once when they were shooting off commercial grade fireworks on a Wednesday night and feel lucky to have escaped alive. The young bulls got threatening with me until the older guy came out and spoke reason. It’s just a product of where I live.

We have neighbours a couple houses down that occasionally like to have people over in their loud echo-ey metal fence+patio back yard and chop their firepit wood every hour or so when they run out, sometimes well after midnight. I do not think they realise how far that sound carries through the night and dont have the foresight to chop during the afternoon beforehand.

Depends on what time, for me

After about 10am is pretty fair game if a noisy job needs doing IMO. If it’s music and not obnoxiously loud, that’s probably fine too

Anyone making any noise before that though absolutely should get in the sea

10 am is way too late where I live. It’ll be >90 by then, and that’s a great way to get hear stroke. Most people in my neighborhood are out by 730 working.

I guess if everyone on your street is doing the same then it’s not a problem, but it’s worth noting over half the general population will have a chronotype where noise that early will be a negative for their health.

Making noise between 10am-10pm is apparently the best for everyone

I can hear people have a normal conversation on the street from inside my house. The walls are thin enough to let in and out all sound, but thick enough to keep in the heat in winter.

I live in a really mild climate and like to keep my windows open all the time. But fuck, I hate the vroom vrooms racing all day and night, and hearing people walking around with bluetooth boomboxes… like, when did that become a thing? headphones and jam friend, jeeeeeze… they don’t even sound good.

I don’t mind the music, but I do mind domestic disputes. The house beside mine is a rental and all of the tenants that have been there since I’ve moved in have been the worst. Trashy and constant domestic disputes and leaving their kids and dogs to just roam. I think the latest people got evicted because I haven’t seen them or their dog for a really long time. It’s been nice and quiet since they disappeared and I love it lol.

In my part of Virginia, they have established noise laws. Seem pretty fair

ordinance defines daytime as 7 AM–10 PM on weekdays and 9 AM–10 PM on weekends and holidays, and nighttime as any time outside of daytime.

The ordinance limits noise levels to 60 decibels during the day and 55 decibels at night in residential areas.

The law has a surprising amount of detail regarding things like vehicle noise, construction, etc.

Yeah most of those are in the 80db range.

Maybe an electric or manual push mower could get below that.

Weed Wacker are also pretty loud.

60dB is about the noise level of a household dishwasher. I think I could break that noise ordinance just taking out the trash, rolling the big plastic wheelybin the town issued me down my driveway to the street.

Incidentally I’m stealing the term “wheelybin” from the British. I’m willing to render it “wheelycan” to localize it to the New World if need be.
