Remember when Steven Crowder had a complete meltdown because his wife didn’t need his permission to file for divorce from his abusive-ass? This is the average conservative mindset. They hate that women have autonomy. It’s why they’re doing everything they can to elect people that will reverse women’s rights. I don’t blame women at all for refusing to date or marry these misogynistic losers.

As a man, I’d never even consider dating a woman on the right, and there’s far less at stake for me than a woman dating a conservative. This idea that decent people should enter into relationships, romantic or otherwise, with shit stains is absurd.

I’m shocked at the number of women who are completely okay with what the Republican Party wants to do to them.

Lmao no they ain’t. You ever seen Marjorie Taylor Greene? I’m pretty sure she’s so vehemently anti-trans because people always mistake her for being trans, and that pisses her off. She doesn’t even look trans, she looks far far more like a man than any MTF could even if they tried, she’s just… a hairless gorilla.

I’m not even trying to body shame, I’m just saying she is definitely not aligned with societal standards for how women should look (not even close), and that’s something I see with a large amount of conservative women. There’s this one popular-with-conservatives woman on Twitter who’s name I forgot who just goes around saying how women should be in the kitchen and how we should genocide fat women, and it’s so clearly because she’s annorexic and extremely conventionally unattractive so she feels the only way to appease to men and seem attractive to them is to give up her dignity + shame others for not having the only “good” quality she sees in herself (being skinny). It’s kind of sad but this is probably the most common shtick you see with popular conservative women.

Seeing one person or even a few people that have a certain quality that are from a certain group doesn’t mean every person from that group has that quality. There’s a lot of ugly Republicans and a few attractive ones.

I’m convinced there’s an attractiveness requirement for Mormon women who knock on doors. Every year or so, two incredibly good-looking women knock on my door to do their thing. It probably makes me the asshole, but I feel slightly more guilty closing my door in their faces than I would if they weren’t so hot. I give them my attention and only close the door after politely repeating “no thanks, I’m not interested in your joy” at least three times. I am a Jew after all—we love our thrice denials.

I didn’t actually see any raw data that supported it. They noted that young people are getting more divided but that is true of the population as a whole. They also noted that marriage rates were down but they have been trending down for decades.

I would have liked to see direct evidence, not inferred, that there are these giant ones of young liberal girls who are single and looking.

The more serious argument comes from their insistence that cross-political marriages will help save the nation from “the Trump-era divisions” and social ills stemming from men’s misogyny. […] Worse, it shifts responsibility for male misbehavior onto women. The blame for MAGA is subtly moved away from those who are perpetuating the problem, meaning Trump’s predominantly male voters, onto the shoulders of Democratic women who have been doing everything right all along. It’s reminiscent of the way women’s hemlines are blamed for male violence or the way mothers are blamed for what their grown sons choose to do. It feels easier to blame women than to hold men accountable.

I’m so fucking tired of people (consciously or unconsciously) expecting women to make the effort, make the sacrifice, to “fix things”.

Trying to get men who already think women are inferior to listen to their liberal wives is a joke.

Which is why even just making the effort feels fruitless. There are incredibly few people in my life who would’ve been worth the massive amount of effort and pain and sheer dedication this kind of conversion requires.

And what would that even look like? Dragging a bunch of men who have voluntarily rolled back their entire worldview to 1940 (or worse) kicking and screaming into some semblance of modern rational thought? How does one do that, and why is it the job of women to do it?

trying to conflate dangerous political stances with harmless social faux-pass is a normalization technique used by the far right pretty often.

yeah voting for policies that de facto decrease the life quality of a large number of people, needlessly, is the same as farting in public. how cute and quirky.

“If attitudes don’t shift, a political dating mismatch will threaten marriage,” declared a recent headline of a Washington Post column by the editorial board.

Pretty sure there’s tons of people living happy lives without marriage. It’s not the 1950s anymore and that doesn’t need to be the ultimate goal for everyone.

      Threaten marriage…

Why the hell should we protect marriage like it’s an animal in danger of going extinct? It’s just a custom. I know a lot of people who have neen together for over a decade as a couple perfectly happy to never marry and they are often the strongest and most long lived couplings I know.

Shouldn’t we just be advocating for the happiness of people and not whether or not a bit of legal paper is signed as a meteic of success?

    Sums the article up nicely:

Voting for Trump means backing a man who has been accused of sexual assault by two dozen women, and who a judge and jury deemed responsible for rape. It means backing the man who repeatedly brags that he got Roe v. Wade overturned. In addition, the MAGA media consumed by most Republicans is hardly neutral on the question of sexism. They are all for it, from the tired sexist jokes on Fox News to bizarre internet trends like “tradwives.” For a woman, marrying a Trump supporter isn’t about being with someone who has different views on tax rates. It’s bringing someone into your home who ascribes to an ideology in which you are not fully human.

And I think compatible values and worldviews are the most important factor of compatibility. Especially if you raise children. Conservative/regressive values and worldviews are not merely incompatible but antithetical to left leaning values.

When one person believes in equality and the other ranks people in a hierarchy based on e.g., socioeconomic status, identity – meaning one believes all deserve the same rights and the other doesn’t – that is going to be an irreconcilable divide that causes a lot of strife. Especially where those values and worldviews directly influence how you are treated by your spouse.

When I was dating, my test for Christian women was that I said I wouldn’t go to church with their family on Christmas. The crazy true believers would act like I was talking about strangling grandma. The sane ones would just be confused about why anyone would invite me to church. It was a super interesting and very reliable dichotomy.
