That word is similar to smorgasbord, which is a word I’ve heard occasionally, but probably never used, so I figured I’d look it up.
Its etymology from that Wikipedia link is very interesting. Apparently “smorgas” means sandwich, and it has a weird etymology for getting there (it apparently literally means “butter goose”), while “bord” means table. Which is all very strange, because smorgasbord now means something like “buffet”, and has little to do specifically with sandwiches (or butter geese).
So, I’m guessing smörgåstårta would mean something like “sandwich tart”?
Close. Tårta means cake. So it translates to sandwichcake
Both a buffet and a sandwich have a little bit of everything. That’s how I made sense of it originally.
smorgastarta is an appertizer. It’s inthe name - smorga-starta, the best meal starta youse can gets!
