Does he not realize that the Hagia Sophia is not under the control of the US in any way, shape, or form?

If I had to guess, I’m assuming this is coming from the seemingly common belief amongst the crowd of a certain political persuasion that Christians are the most persecuted people in the world ever, and that Muslims are trying to kill us all or convert us all to their religion?

Motherfucking abrahamic religious fucknuts who apparently worship the same god always infighting thinking they’re the “better” religion.

God, if he’s real, must be rolling his eyes and simultaneously facepalming so hard right now.

        Global north always does this.

US bombs some country in middle east, the people there fight back as self-defense, US says they are fighting in name of religion, and then US commits war crimes there in name of “spreading civilization.”

Just using same rhetoric used against native americans. And people can’t progress during war so US uses that to justify occupation.

Surely the good people of South Carolina will not elect this obvious incompetent cretin to the Senate.

For those who don’t know, the original Hagia Sophia was one of the most impressive construction speed-run of all time. Completed in just under 6 years with 4th 6th century tech. They botched it a bit so the roof fell but still very impressive.

Edit: 6th century tech, first church was made in 4th century, current structure with the speed run was started in 532 and finished in 537.

Yeah, they would have had a clean run if they had made the dome more curved. It was a bit flat and an earthquake took the dome down and destroyed the altar. Still very impressive and definitely been well maintained.

Okay, ignoring that reading this has made me even stupider - I always assume there was SOME kind of thought process that lead to such statements (yeah yeah I know, haha politicians and thought processes ololollol) and I’m very interested in this one. What exactly happened there? Where did the connection between the Hagia Sophia and the office of senator for South Carolina come from? What is he free-associating?

He is a senator. The Roman empire continues.

Even senators need some kind of prompt to produce their nonsense. Who told this guy the Hagia Sophia was in the circle of influence of the SC senator?

US politicians believe their constituents elect them to police the middle east. See everything in Iran, Iraq, their rabbid support for Israel, etc.

They truly believe that God granted them this power to spread his war on Muslims. That’s why a SC sensor thinks he has control over Hagia Sophia.

Okay, yes, that makes sense (as in, I can see where this is coming from, not as in, it’s sensible). But a senator? Potus, sure, obviously. Possibly a governor even. A senator? This seems like a fundamental misunderstanding of the office itself.

The only connection I could make that would make sense to someone like that is Türkiye is near Georgia and so is South Carolina, therefore it’s in the US… but I’ve learned you should never try to ascribe logic or reason in situations like this. There is none. It’s almost like they use a random word generator in their attempts to manufacture the outrage of the day.

Southern states breed a type of politician that is what Donald Trump is on a pettier and smaller scale - you could say they were the prototype. Try Ma Ferguson and Alfalfa Bill Murray for stupid fucks that made their way to Governor (Ma Ferguson is probably(?) the originator of “if English was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for me”; Alfalfa Bill Murray almost started a Texas/Oklahoma war).

Sorta like how MTG, and Michelle Bachman before her started. National attention for saying stupid shit = avalanche of votes on name recognition in your stupid home state.
